 Blood Bowl Kick Off!

Our family went on an end of summer camping trip the first weekend of September.  My son was excited about painting miniatures and my wife was encouraging me to take along some hobby projects to tackle while we were relaxing but the idea of bringing all the different paints I would need to work on my Dark Angels or all the colors my son would want for his swelling chaos warband seemed like too much effort for a long weekend.  A few days before the trip I had a sudden lucky bout of inspiration...

Blocking and passing drills to warm up.

Blood Bowl was the inspiration that struck me like a 250 pound Blitzer.  I had bought the starter set when it came out in 2016 and although I've had a gaming stretch goal of wanting to run a league during American football season for a few years now the game sat mostly untouched other than assembling the miniatures and painting one human Blitzer in the colors of my favorite team.

Readying for the first kick-off.

So Blood Bowl was the perfect game for our trip.  I could learn the game while teaching my son about another great part of the GW universe.  Plus we could play the game even if we didn't get any painting time since the pieces were all assembled and ready to go.  If there was time for painting, we only needed to take the three colors we were using to paint each team.

First lesson of Blood Bowl, humans get knocked down by Orks frequently.

The idea worked out perfectly, my son loved Blood Bowl and I was quickly hooked as well.  The game is fun, fast, and a pretty good board game representation of American football crossed with Rugby.  We got some basic colors on the teams that weekend and we've been painting the figures that game with the game in between some of our other projects since.  My son enjoyed it so much he has been reading the 2017 Blood Bowl almanac ever since and we started a league when we got home.  So far it's only the two of us, but my son has been creating teams like crazy lately so we have a few teams gaining experience as we play at least a league game per week her at home.  We even took the game to friends house last weekend and created some new enthusiastic players among some of my son's classmates and their father who introduced me to X-wing miniatures game a few years ago.  Stay tuned for more exciting updates on our newly hatched Blood Bowl League.

Dropping back for the long bomb...
