I got to play Star Wars Legion again recently with my friend's beautifully painted Rebel army.  It's been mentioned here in the past, but I am in the ideal situation with this game.  I love Star Wars and find the mechanics of Legion very fun to play, but I don't have the time or money to buy into another game system.  Fortunately for me I have a good friend who owns Imperial and Rebel armies with all the fixings and who paints amazing looking armies.  That way I can just show up at his house and play a game of Legion on a great looking board without adding to my massive painting backlog.  This post will serve less as a detailed battle report and more as an excuse to show off my friends gorgeous miniatures.  Follow along after the jump if you wish you could still play with Star Wars toys and wanted the framework of a game to guide your galactic fun...

Thursday Night Legion Lights

Thanks to mild fall weather here on the east coast of the US, I have been able to play some in person games outside on my neighbors back porch.  He only started painting miniatures a little over 18 months ago but he already has a massive Legion collection that is really nicely painted, especially for someone relatively new to the hobby.  He has his patio illuminated in a manner that makes these pictures look like they were taken during the day, even though it was actually 10pm.   Legion is so much fun to play, there is something magical about getting to play a game with a great looking army that would have blown your mind when playing with Star Wars action figures as a kid.  This situation is also ideal when you already have mounds of grey plastic for other gaming systems at home in need of paint.  My friend bought two armies and painted them all himself so I can just show up and enjoy an amazing looking game with out adding to the long list of things I need to paint.

Legion!

Space Marine Legions?  Unfortunately, as much as I dream of playing games set in WH30K's Age of Darkness we are actually here to talk about Star Wars Legion today.  Fantasy Flight's tabletop miniatures game is a great entrant in the field, a lot of fun to play and beautiful looking models.  The same friend who first introduced me to playing the X-wing Miniatures game a few years ago got the miniature painting bug earlier this year after buying and playing Star Wars Imperial Assault with his kids.  He started out paining the miniatures in that game, using some great YouTube tutorials and asking a lot of questions.  It was fun to have another person locally to talk miniature painting with and his skills progressed at an impressive rate.  Working in a methodical fashion rare among those of us who love plastic crack he painted everything in the Imperial Assault box before moving onto to his Star Wars Legion starter set that he had acquired in the middle of last year. 

Not quite the forest moon of Endor but it looked pretty good for a first game in a new system.
