Thunderstruck!

The sergeant's pose reminds me of a cleric using a light spell on his warhammer to illuminate the party's dungeon crawling. |
Stretching this metaphor for as long as history said it's more traditional equivalent would run, today features some slightly sub-standard photos of the second part of the Close Assault squad. Four Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield armed marines backed up by the classic Terminator heavy weapon choice, the Heavy Flamer. More slightly fuzzy pictures after the jump...

SInce the extra crotch armor panel was used on the Lightning Claw squad, I added tabards to both of these two in order to make them look more 1st Legion. |
This unit has been built with a combination of models I got on the cheap at Nova Open 2019 and some of the figures from the Deathwing Command Squad Box, since that unit hasn't existed in the current or last edition. Plenty of Dark Angels bits were added to make them fit thematically with the Dark Vengeance Terminators who being sculpted to be from a particular chapter are very symbol and icon heavy. Weapon arm and shield combinations were carefully planned although I don't think the angles I picked for the pictures are helping to show that idea. The Sergeant wings were employed for proper 1st Legion flair but they are so cartoonishly out of proportion to the rest of the model all I can think when I look at them is that hero in
The Watchmen who gets his cape stuck in the revolving door. I am gratuitously awarding myself another big build badge for a second day in a row, now I just need a random winter day where the temperature goes above sixty so I can prime and maybe even spray basecoat them. Thanks for the eyeballs and stay safe out there...

The marine on the left was the only cheap rescue I couldn't repose, but since Genestealers are always coming through the floors I like to think he's bashing at an arm coming out of the ground, I may have to try and model that... |
