Old Stuff Day 2021

Celebrating Hobby Gold From Around The Blogosphere That May Have Been Overlooked...

One of my goals this year with my hobby was to participate in more community events like painting challenges (Dreadtober, 40K2ndAC II, etc) but today's post is actually another kind of community participation: Old Stuff Day!  Invented a few years ago to highlight great posts from around the blogosphere that may have been overlooked or were just awesome and could use some more looks.  My research did not go super deep this year, but follow along after the jump for some great blog articles I've read in the last year or more...

First up is an amazing blog, Old School Gaming, whose author I have gotten to interact with a lot in the last year as he has taken part in the first and now second season of the 40K2ndAC.  One of my favorite things I've seen on the internet has been his take on the Iron Snakes chapter based on the excellent novel by Dan Abnett.  Be sure to check out the great post about it by clicking on the picture below:

Next on the list is the fantastic Tales from Farpoint blog whose author has not only a love for many things Oldhammer but also a wide range of sci-fi games, many that include models sculpted or scratch built by the blogs creator.  Check out this awesome post about custom built Land Ironclads!:

The Neverness blog has a lot of fun content about many 40K painting and gaming projects. The article below only technically came out last week so is an odd entry for old stuff day, but the subject matter is 100% pure Oldhammer and good fun.  It actually settled an argument that my friend and I have had for several years about the original jump packs in the Rogue Trader days:

The author of Old School Workshop creates so many awe inspiring scratch built scenery projects that look straight out of a Rogue Trader diorama in old 'Eavy Metal pages of the late 80's.  I couldn't find the cool project of his I wanted to highlight so I settled for this great article from my birthday two years ago where Suber creates a very realistic looking rad-waste crawler out of an empty pounder can:

I couldn't pass up the chance to mention Dr TV's amazing C0wabunga blog which has been my stepping stone into a international hobby community of people who love 2nd edition WH40K.  In between his many hobby challenges he coordinates and retro cool White Dwarf copycat articles he cranked out this fantastic post about some awesome Catachans painted up as GI Joe's classic Tiger Force:

Confessions of a 40k Addict is a wonderful blog that has a really cool system for organizing the hobby season with respect to goals that the author is happy to share with those that want to participate.  I first found the blog during Dreadtober 2019 a little more than 18 months ago.  Check out this great post about a Dark Angels dreadnought:

There are many more blogs I enjoy that I don't have the time to call out individually here, but if you need more fun things to read check out my list of recommended blogs on the left hand side of the page.  Click on the picture of my jaunty Inquisitor below to find the link to my underrated post of 2020:

Well it's almost midnight here in the eastern US so I'm just getting this in under the wire, it will be fun to catch up with this feature again next year with a little more time to dig up some neglected gems...

    1. He makes some really amazing things on there, all in true RT style. Household innocuous items turned into sci-fi objects of wonder.

    1. Happy to give your blog a shout out, I am always impressed by some of the things you cook up. When I first found your blog a couple of years ago it was definitely because I saw the words "Land Ironclads" in someone else's blog roll and I had to investigate :-)

  3. Thanks for taking part in Old Stuff Day and keeping these blogs going. I'll have to start planning for Dreadtober 2021. I've just ordered a couple of Armiger Helverins, they may well be my pledge...

    1. Thanks for letting me in on hobby season, it's been fun to keep things a little more to the plan plus I love the badges. Also Marc from Old School Gaming conveniently mentioned Old Stuff Day in a thread two weeks ago which helped me remember to do some research and prepare a post.
