Mustering for War
This is why I love Epic, outside of a giant game of Armageddon you could never field this many marines and tanks in a game of WH40K. |
This blog had 240 hits the other day and considering my daily pageviews are normally measured in the low teens I must assume this has something to do with Dr The Viking posting his project updates on Facebook. Which leads people to his blog, then to the Epic Proportions page which will lead them ... here. It's like how the stormtroopers finding the Jawas leads them to murdering Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, but with 100% less charred step-family bodies posed dramatically outside their farm house.
Ham-fisted Star Wars jokes aside, I'm going to do what any good American business would do with a sudden unexpected increase in foot traffic; give the people what they want! As far as I can tell from the breakdown in stats, what the people want is more Epic content. So I am posting this update to my initial photos of the two prospective armies, now that the bounty of my cross country WH40K for Epic trade has arrived.
I have a longer post on "Why Salamanders" in the works right now so I'll just update what the armies are shaping up to be here. Included below the Ultramarines picture are the tentative unit breakdowns in the two armies, which just leaves a few unassigned extras. In the center of the whole force picture at the beginning of the post, there are two detachments of tactical marines with no Rhinos along with two HQ stands with accompanying Rhinos.
Due to the Land Raider Company, I feel like the Ultramarines have the advantage in power. I've tried to pile in the artillery and some predators on the Salamanders side along with an extra dreadnought unit, but I don't think that will compare to the hitting power of all the Land Raiders. So the easiest solution is building one more Tactical detachment and adding it to the unassigned infantry mentioned above and give the Salamanders a foot tactical company, allowing them to take another hero and two units in support. Another possibility is making two detachments of Legion of the Damned which wouldn't need Rhinos or an HQ stand. That would give me a lot more flexibility in changing army list from game to game , as the LoTD could play for either side. I love this idea in concept but it may make me want to jump off a bridge later when trying to paint flames and skulls on twelve tactical stands. There are also the two HQ stands which may get added as an extra hero for each army, of I may add them as "shared" heroes like an inquisitor who could also play for either army.
As you can tell from the varied colors of the company, I could never quite decide what chapter I wanted those Land Raiders to be from way back in the day. |
